As a photojournalist and sports photographer I've always had issues with Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop is not worth the investment as the genres I photograph are fundamentally fact related & heavy manipulation is not required.

Hi Ed, great video! What if I change my computer? How do I ensure I keep my Lightroom Library on Lightroom CC without using the cloud?

  8. "…like really small, like a couple hundred megabytes, usually." There's the part where I feel really, really old. 🙂

Great video. Thank you. I don't know why Adobe never thought to explain it that way – 'We don't re-save the file after every edit, we just save the data about the edits and reference the file.' Which makes perfect sense – that's why it's so easy to apply the same edits to any other file. Thanks 🙂

Excellent explanation of Lightroom Ed. One question I have, and I suspect you have been asked this many times before. Is it possible to use Lightroom with 360 pictures? – Look forward learning heaps more from you.

Is there a portrait editing suite that almost automatically smoothens human skin? I deal with a few scruffy ones like m'self!

I don't want to purchase the wrong thing; in what form(s) should I buy Lightroom, is it a CD/DVD? Does it have alternate formats? What key words should I look for on the item? Please include anything else I need to know to make a buying decision.

  18. Milton Welch says:

Thanks for the definitive explanation; a 66-year-old dinosaur like me needs that and many more explanations on the subject. It's beyond ridiculous how far behind I am since Photography changed from film to digital. I can't even ask the right questions, because I don't know what or how to ask. What do you suggest for an ageing dunce who HAS to produce edited images?

  19. If I want to create Facebook and Instagram images, or manipulate a photo to post to social media, do I use Photoshop or Lightroom? Does either program have a social media pre-set (for dimensions, etc.)?

  20. Bob Wagnon says:

I have just recently wanted to start photography at my age, videos like yours makes me feel like 50 is not too old:)

  21. Bob Wagnon says:

I assume Lightroom will work on my pc computer?

  22. Pocho Nieves says:

Good explanation… I am straight up a graphic designer and expert user of photoshop, so it is hard for me to see the value of Lightroom. All the "advantages" you mentioned of Lightroom, if you are a graphic designer and already dealing with big files and versions, then they isnt as much ROI vs for a photographer. While I do photography too, I always been a designer and illustrator first. I feel Lightroom is like Bridge with elements of PS.
However, I can totally see where this is the bomb for photographers and if they are doing shoots regularly this would be key for managing their files. If my workflow was of a photographer I guess my life would depend on it, LOL!
Well I have Lightroom Classic for free anyways… I am going to try to manage my photos with it for a minute and see… also I find it interesting that you can apply filters but there is only one version of the file… nice.

  23. I got an ad for lightroom in a video telling me what lightroom is…thanks youtube?

first thing to learn about the audience is: it's confidence building if you actually post a button or question in the upper right corner if you're pointing there and saying to do something there. if there's nothing, it makes me feel like you don't really know what you're talking about. so i'm going somewhere else. goodluck.

  30. great tutorial man! you rock! thanks a ton

  35. Hi man! you are amazing!!! Actually, I love photography but I'm bad with retouching the pics. in the beginning, I started with Lightroom then I switched to capture one. I thought capture one is easier and seemed better than Lightroom but in the end, I have to come back to Lightroom. I can't believe that this video was uploaded 2 years ago, why I couldn't find it earlier ))). from now I subscribe you and try to watch all your uploaded videos and keep in touch with new videos as well.
